Article – God’s view of your path

In my Sunday School class we are studying the Old Testament and recently we studied Jacob and Esau. We were amazed how every character in the story of the birthright was involved in deception. Yet, God’s will was done in spite of them.

During the study it came to me that from God’s view He sees are lives as a straight path that He planned out for us before the world was even created. He does not see our past, present, or future. He sees our entire lives as one straight path.

How do we know this? Listen to a few verses with me. “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9. “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please… What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do.” (Isaiah 46:10-11). God’s will is going to be done in our lives no matter what. That is extremely comforting and thought provoking as well.

We see studying Jacob’s life that things could have gone much smoother if all the family involved didn’t try to circumvent God’s will. There was much pain in the process. As soon as Jacob stole Esau’s birthright, he had to leave the family for fear of retribution. He was totally separated from his family. God didn’t leave Him though and accomplished His will.

When I look over my life I see detours, time spent in the woods, under construction times, and times in the desert. My path does not at all look straight. Yet, from God’s point of view I have walked a straight path and He is still in control of my life.

What this has said to me is according to God’ Word He is directing all of my steps even when it feels He is not or I’m rebellious. It also says to me the path would be much smoother if I follow God’s leading instead of my own.

Can you take comfort today no matter what situation you are in that God is in control and leading you step by step? He is holding your hand and promises He will never leave you nor forsake you. Trust in God and His unique plans for you.

Final Thoughts

Want another verse that is even more mind blowing? “Before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand; not by works but by him who calls—she was told, ‘The older will serve the younger’. Just as it is written, ‘Jacob I love, but Esau I hated” Romans 9:11-13. God is sovereign.

Till next time,
